Roller doors remain the most common new-installation choice in Adelaide because they’re cost-effective, robust, and need very little headroom — the door rolls up into a coil above the opening rather than into the ceiling space. For a single carport or a workshop where the ceiling height is tight, they’re often the only sensible choice.
We connect you with one Adelaide installer who’ll supply and install a new roller door, sized and finished for your opening. Standard residential single roller doors run from about $1,400 to $2,800 supplied and installed; double rollers from $2,400 to $4,500 depending on width, motor type, and Colorbond colour selection.
Why roller, not sectional?
- Headroom. Roller doors need ~300mm of headroom above the opening; sectional doors need 350-400mm of back-room clearance. If you have a tight ceiling, roller wins.
- Cost. Like-for-like, a roller is 20-30% cheaper than an insulated sectional.
- Simplicity. Fewer moving parts, fewer hinges, fewer rollers, fewer failure modes.
- Speed of operation. Modern roller motors lift faster than most sectional motors.
Why sectional instead of roller?
- Insulation. Sectional doors carry insulated panels (polystyrene or polyurethane core) with R-values up to ~3. Roller doors are single-skin steel with no insulation.
- Aesthetic. Sectionals have flatter, more “front of house” appearance; rollers carry a corrugated/horizontal-rib pattern.
- Sealing. Sectionals seal better against weather, dust, and vermin.
Common roller door brands and ranges
- Steel-Line — broad Adelaide presence, stocked in standard Colorbond colours, motor packages bundled.
- B&D — popular for replacement openers; doors stocked in matching colours.
- Gliderol / Stratco — Australian-made roller doors common on new builds.
Your matched installer will recommend the brand they’re confident warranting, which usually comes down to which brand they hold genuine spare-parts stock for.
