Adelaide Garage Door Repairs — Same-Day Service — Adelaide

Garage door repairs are what we do most. Five out of six service calls we route to Adelaide technicians fall into a small set of patterns: snapped torsion springs, dead motors, off-track doors, broken cables, panel damage from a reversing vehicle, and remote or keypad faults. Most are same-day fixes by a technician with the right parts on the van.

Common Adelaide repair calls

Snapped torsion spring

The unmistakable loud bang at 6am when the door is opening, followed by the door not lifting. Torsion springs (the wound coil sitting horizontally above the door) store enormous energy — when they fail, the door becomes essentially un-liftable by the motor. Fix: spring replacement, typically $220-$420 for a single spring, $360-$480 for a pair (recommended if both are aged similarly). Same-day for most metro suburbs.

Motor humming, door not moving

Capacitor failure, drive-gear stripping, or logic-board fault on the opener. Common across B&D, Centurion, Merlin, Steel-Line and Chamberlain motors after 8-12 years of daily use. Fix: motor repair $160-$480 depending on which component has failed; full opener replacement $480-$780. The technician will diagnose on the call-out before deciding repair-vs-replace.

Door off the tracks

Almost always a hit by a vehicle reversing out, or a broken cable that’s let one side drop. Don’t operate it — running the motor on a misaligned door tears panels, bends tracks, and turns a $300 fix into a $2,500 replacement. Fix: track realignment + cable replacement, $260-$520. Often same-day if you call before 11am.

Remote or keypad not working

Dead battery (the most common cause), lost code, weak signal, or a logic-board fault on the opener side. Fix: reprogramming and battery swap is often $80-$140 if no parts are needed; remote replacement $40-$120.

Buckled or rusted panel

Single-panel replacement is usually cheaper than a full door swap. Fix: $480-$1,200 depending on panel size, finish, and door brand. Photos help your technician quote accurately.

Cable snapped

The cables that run vertically inside the tracks lift the door under spring tension. They snap when frayed; left unrepaired they cause off-track damage. Fix: cable replacement $180-$340.

What to do while you wait

  • Don’t force the door. If it won’t open, don’t crowbar it. Don’t run the motor repeatedly.
  • Disengage the motor if you can. Most openers have a manual-release pull cord that disengages the motor from the door, letting you lift the door manually if the springs are healthy.
  • Get the car out if it’s trapped — but only if the door’s fully open and stable. If it’s mid-travel, leave it.
  • Photograph the failure point if visible. Spring break, panel damage, off-track condition — photos help the technician arrive with the right parts.

Same-day vs next-day

Most metro Adelaide suburbs (Adelaide CBD, Eastern Suburbs, Western Suburbs, Northern Suburbs, Marion, Modbury, Tea Tree Gully) have same-day call-out availability if you submit by 11am. Outer Adelaide (Mount Barker, Aldinga, Gawler, Strathalbyn) is typically next-day. Emergency call-outs are charged $90-$140 for the visit, waived if the work proceeds.
